Hart - Hettie Lewis

Hettie Ann, wife of Abram V. Hart, died very suddenly on Thursday evening, Aug. 18, 1898, of dropsy of the heart, aged 53 years, nine months and 25 days. She had been subject to spells of asthma for several years and had been severely indisposed for some time, but was not considered to be in immediate danger until the last moment.

Hettie Ann Lewis was born at Groesbeck, Hamilton County, Ohio, Oct. 25, 1844, where she grew to womanhood, and was married to A. V. Hart on March 30, 1865. They moved to Montgomery County in the fall of 1865, and settled in Ripley Township near Alamo. They came to this place in 1877 and built their cozy home one mile south of town, where she spent the rest of her life. She united with the Pleasant Hill Christian Church under the ministration of Rev. John T. Philips in February, 1878, and ever afterwards lived a consistent Christian life, ever trusting her soul to the loving care of Jesus, her Savior.
There was born to her and her husband five children, three boys and two girls, all of whom are living and attended the funeral. Ambrose, the oldest, lives at Greentown, Ed, the second son, at Newtown, and Charlie, the youngest son, lives at home. The oldest daughter is Mrs. Rolla Monroe, of Crawfordsville, and the youngest daughter, Addie, lives at home. She also leaves a brother and sister in Nebraska, and a half brother living near Mellott, and several grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the Christian Church on Saturday noon conducted by Rev. D. Powell, and was largely attended. Interment was at the adjacent cemetery. -s

Mrs. Abram V. Hart, aged 53 years, died very suddenly on Thursday evening, Aug. 18, at her home at Pleasant Hill. At the time of her demise she was with her husband, her daughters, Laura and Addie, and her son, Charley, together with a few visiting friends.
The funeral was conducted on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Pleasant Hill Church, the officiating minister being the Rev. Mr. Powell assisted by the Rev. Mr. Maxwell. The text from which the funeral sermon was preached was taken from the book of Revelations, being: “It is better to go to the house of mourning than to the house of feasting.” The remains were interred in the beautiful little cemetery, the three sons of the departed with her brother, her cousin and son-in-law acting as pallbearers.

Hetta Ann Lewis was born in Groesbeck, Hamilton County, Ohio, on Oct. 23, 1844. On March 30, 1865, she was married to Abram V. Hart and came with him to this county soon after, where she resided until her death. In February, 1878, she was converted under the ministry of the Rev. John T. Phillips and united with the Christian Church of Pleasant Hill, with which institution of piety she continued as a faithful and consistent member unto she passed to the joys of the Church Triumphant.
Mrs. Hart was the mother of five children, three sons and two daughters, all of whom are living, mourning with their bereaved father their irremediable loss. Her life was a beautiful example of Christian grace and works and in her living she displayed to all a character consistent, pure and thoroughly useful in thought, word and deed. Her sojourn here on earth was for the earth’s good, and inspired those who knew her. -s
